Howard Stern's mutual friends Sam Simon and Bubba the Love Sponge may not seem like they have much in common, but members of the Howard Stern Show family always try to look out for each other. Bubba reached out to show his support for Simon this week after Simon announced on Sirius XM last week that he has been diagnosed with metastatic cancer that has spread throughout his body. Simon, a proud vegan and fervent animal rights activist, has been given only months to live by doctors. When Bubba asked how he could show his support for "The Simpsons" co-creator and frequent Stern Show call in guest, Simon asked him to go vegan for one week, and Bubba agreed and started the diet on March 18.
Anyone familiar with Bubba the Love Sponge knows this is no small feat for the enormous radio host. The 300+ pound Tampa based radio star has an appetite as big as the Everglades and is willing to deep fat fry everything from a doughnut to a Koran (no--seriously, a Koran).
Bubba has been tweeting photos of his vegan meals all week, along with thanks Simon and PETA for their support of his healthy eating experiment--temporary as it may be.
