The season will premiere with an All-Brahms program conducted by internationally- renowned German conductor, Christoph von Dohnanyi and featuring brilliant violinist Augustin Hadelich, accomplished cellist Alan Gerhardt. The evening’s highlights include Brahms’s Symphony No. 2 and an encore performance will take place on Tuesday, September 24.
However, before the season premieres, the Boston Symphony Orchestra proudly presents their annual Symphony Hall Gala to usher in the 2013-2014 season on Thursday, September 19 at 6 p.m. This exciting, glamorous evening will be packed with incredible performances by Tony-award winning singer and actress Audra McDonald and an All-Ravel program directed by Assistant conductor Marcelo Lehninger, starting with a sparkling cocktail reception. Dinner will feature performances from members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Tanglewood Music Center with dancing with the Pops Swing Orchestra. This traditional fundraiser is a lovely way to inaugurate the upcoming season.
Other September highlights include Mahler Symphony No.2, Handel and Hayden Society: Bach Mass in B Minor, and Mission Gratitude presented by State Street. Mission Gratitude presented by State Street will support the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program on Monday, September 23.
