Bryant Gumbel announced that he has lung cancer on the Live with Regis and Kelly this morning. Bryant Gumbel co-hosted with Kelly because Regis has been out for a recent hip surgery.
Bryant Gumbel announced that he has cancer, and said that he hadn’t even told his staff yet. Kelly was upset because she considered Bryant Gumbel to be a close friend and the first time she heard about it was on air.
Kelly asked Gumbel to dance and he said he didn’t feel up to it. Then he explained that he had lung cancer surgery. Gumbel said "they opened up my chest, they took a malignant tumor and they took part of my lung and some other goodies."
He said "the pathology on most of the stuff came back benign, but enough aggressive cells escaped the tumor that it warranted some treatment." Then he said "it's done now."
