Bryan Singer has signed to direct X-Men: First Class

Since departing the franchise that started the comic book movie revolution so he could direct a punchless Superman movie, fans have longed for director Bryan Singer to return to the X-Men franchise.

In recent months, Singer has expressed interest to do so. With the various X-Men projects in development at Fox, many thought that if anything, he would gravitate toward X-Men Origins: Magneto. However, he seemed wary to do the Magneto flick given that he has already delved into similar Nazi source material with Apt Pupil and Valkyrie. So which X-project would he tackle?

Well, according to Singer himself on the red carpet at last nights LA premiere for James Cameron's Avatar, on Tuesday he signed a deal with Fox to direct X-Men: First Class, the team origin story about the teen mutants in their first year at Xavier's. It seems fitting.
