The comic book film world was rocked earlier this week when news broke that Oscar-winning Director Ben Affleck would play Batman in the Man of Steel sequel due out summer 2015. With the aftershock of that explosive information still resonating in fans of the caped crusader everywhere, Warner bros has decided to unleash another interesting piece of casting news. Bryan Cranston, who is most notably known for his Emmy winning performance as Walter White/Heisenberg in AMC’s Breaking Bad, has been casted as Superman arch-nemesis Lex Luther.
Cranston has signed a 6 film deal in a similar style of Samuel L. Jackson’s deal as Nick Fury in the various Marvel films like, Iron Man, The Hulk and The Avengers. Additionally rumors are circulating that Ben Affleck did not only sign on to play the caped crusader once, but a whopping 13 times, most of which would be presumably cameos.
Long time friend and co-star of Affleck’s, and Elysium actor, Matt Damon is rumored to be taking on the role of either Aquaman or Martian Manhunter. With Man of Steel director Zack Snyder returning to direct Batman vs Superman and with Dark Knight trilogy Director Christopher Nolan executive producing, the film promises to impress.
This seems obviously to be Warner Bros/DC ramping up to copy Disney/Marvel multi film phase plan of The Avengers. It would not be unrealistic to assume we will see a Justice League film by 2020 with Amy Adams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Laurence Fishbone, Bryan Cranston and Diane Lane.
The only way things could get any more star packed is if somehow everyone came together in a Justice League vs The Avengers film.
