The nominees for the 20th Annual SAG Awards were announced on Dec. 11 and “Breaking Bad” walked away with three nominations. The wildly popular AMC series received a nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast in a Drama Series. Plus, Bryan Cranston and Anna Gunn also received individual nominations for Outstanding Male and Female Actor in a Drama Series. As the “LA Times" pointed out on Wednesday morning after the nominations were revealed, “The SAGs are the first major awards nominations of the season, but they are seen as a critical indicator.”

Each year, the Screen Actors Guild, comprised solely by actors’ peers in SAG-AFTRA, name nominees in five film and eight TV categories. Approximately 100,000 SAG actors will vote to determine the winners. In a star-studded live TV event, the film and TV winners will be revealed. The 20th Annual SAG Awards will be simulcast live nationally on TNT and TBS on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PST) from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center.

In 2013, “Breaking Bad” won the Emmy Award for Best Drama, but Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul didn’t win individual Emmys. However, Anna Gunn walked away with an Emmy for her portrayal of Skylar White, Walter’s conniving co-conspirator. Cranston and Gunn are both nominated for a SAG Award this year and the series has a good shot at winning Best Ensemble Cast in a Drama Series. Because supporting actors and actresses are not recognized at the SAG Awards, Aaron Paul’s name was not on the list of nominees.

Since debuting in 2008, “Breaking Bad” received widespread critical acclaim throughout all five seasons. Overall, the series has won 35 industry awards and 117 nominations. It ended in the fall with an explosive finale, but past seasons are available on Netflix, Blu-Ray and DVD.
