Bryan Bothers have rare loss in Davis Cup (Photos)

It looked like a sure thing, but even the Bryan Brothers did not take their opponents for granted. And the Brazilian doubles team of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares proved worthy as they defeated the Bryans 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Before this match, the Bob and Mike Bryan were an incredible 22-2 in Davis Cup where they had not lost since 2008. Last Thursday in a press conference, Bob Bryan might have been more than just careful of the Brazilian doubles team.

Bob Bryan said, “We have to go out there and play good tennis, have to execute. This is a team that has beaten us before. They beat us in a big match at the French. We really respect them.”

The Brazil victory kept the US from clinching the first round Davis Cup match. The USA leads 2-1 by virtue of two singles wins by John Isner and Sam Querry.

Attention will now be on the reverse singles Sunday where Isner faces Thomaz Bellucci and Querry takes on Thiago Alves.
