Brunswick Permaculture and Transition Town presented "No Impact Man" to foster sustainable living

The Brunswick Permaculture and Transition Town groups teamed up to show the movie “No Impact Man” on 3/16/2009. This is a story about a young couple with a toddler who decided to live with no impact in an apartment in New York City.

The movie showed how we could indeed reduce our impact significantly by buying local foods, as well as giving the viewer some indication of the joys and frustrations of living with little impact. It showed not only the impact on how not having electricity affected our ability to use services such as elevators, lights, etc., but how eating locally means no espresso coffee, banana, and other foods that have to be trucked, railed and flown in from far-away places.

For those interested in how an urban family were able to reduce their impact significantly, this movie is a must see. For those in more suburban and rural areas, this is a movie that will point you towards ways of living even more off the grid than is even possible in an urban setting. If you are in a typical suburb, for example, why not turn that well manicured lawn into a living forest of fruits, vegetables and even wildlife? The possibilities are endless.
