Out of the nine teams that will be playing in the conference this season, eight finished with a winning record during the 2012 season.
Mt. Blue finished undefeated and won the class B state championship.
Lawrence finished undefeated during the regular season. The Bulldogs lost to Thornton Academy in the class A state championship game.
Cony went 8-3 in 2012, they fell to Lawrence in the class A regional final.
Brunswick, Gardiner, and Messalonskee reached semifinals in their respective classes last season.
Brewer and Hampden reached the postseason in class B last season.
Skowhegan is the only team that did not finish in the postseason last year. They finished with a respectable 4-5 record in class A.
Brunswick is the pick by our panel to win the new look class B east this season. It would not be a surprise to anyone if Mt. Blue, Cony, or Lawrence finished on top.
Hampden could contend and can make a statement with a week one game at Mt. Blue.
All six playoff positions will be very much earned this year. We expect Gardiner, Messalonskee, and Brewer to be battling it out for the final playoff spot.
This is the only conference where eight teams are capable of finishing in the top spot with all nine teams capable of earning a playoff spot.
