The “When I Was Your Man,” pop sensation is mourning the loss of his mother, Bernadette Hernandez, after her passing on Saturday June 1, according to Fox News. Mars, whose real name is Peter Gene Hernandez, was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he has returned to be with family during their loss.
Bernadette was rushed to Queen Medical Center in Honolulu Friday night after suffering a severe heart attack. She was placed under a doctor’s care and listed in critical condition according to Star magazine. As she rested and recovered, Hernandez later suffered a massive brain aneurysm Saturday. The mother of six did not survive, passing away at the age of fifty-five. Bernadette spent her life as a hula dancer, singer, and mother. She immigrated from the Philippines as a child with high hopes for a better life. It’s safe to agree she achieved those dreams.
Bruno has four sisters who have their own girl group and one brother who is the drummer in Bruno’s band.
The publicist for Mars’ record label, Atlantic Records, was not authorized to speak on record, according to The Associated Press.
Mars is top of the charts for pop music, with a career that holds many recent number ones, including, “Just the Way You Are, “ “When I Was Your Man,” and even a song about his mom, “I Love You Mom.”
““I love you Mom, you are my favorite girl. I love you Mom, you’ll always be my favorite girl.”
It brings great sadness to have to report the news of Bruno Mars’ mother. Hearts and prayers go out to the Hernandez family.
