Brunch at Bistro 44

If you can't make it to France this winter, the solution might be brunch at Bistro 44, located at 44 Main Street in the quaint Harbor Village of Northport, New York. Fishing boats still grace this waterside community even in the dead of winter, although the sailboats and private yachts won't emerge again until spring.

Happily Bistro 44 is a little jewel open year round. Arriving in Northport, there is ample parking along Main Street as well as additional parking in lots, situated on the Bay.

The decor at Bistro 44 is decidedly understated, a convergence of dark wood, old world wall paper and crisp linen tablecloths. Executive Chef Emmanuel Karropoulos has created a menu to please even the most discerning palate. An attentive staff under the direction of owner Paul Gallowitsch will ensure a memorable experience.

You can enjoy freshly baked croissants and a Kir Royale as you review the selections of the day. The Eggs Benedict come with a surprising modern twist as Chef Emmanuel uses applewood smoked bacon as opposed to the obligatory Canadian type.

For the traditionalist perhaps the Croque Madame or Croque Monsieur will please you as they are both second to none served on a lovely sour dough bread. For the hardcore burger lover, the Bistros' excellent Kobe beef burger can be topped with an egg as well as frizzled onions. Sushi lovers can rejoice as a tower of tuna tartare graces the brunch menu served on a bed of avocado.

With its close proximity to the John W. Engeman Theater, Bistro 44 also currently offers a perfect three course Pre-Theater Menu as well as dinner six nights a week. Bistro 44 is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 to 10 p.m. Tapas are served daily at the bar. For Reservations call 631-262-9744.

Bon Appetit!
