With the news that Ben McKenzie will be playing the young Detective Gordon on Fox's new show, 'Gotham', fans are happy to hear the news that Batman, Catwoman, Riddler, and the Penguin are confirmed to be in the new show as well.
Fox wants this to be an origins story with a very young Bruce Wayne, some have even said as young as 12 or 13 years old. They also want to show the origins of many of Gotham's villains such as Catwoman, the Riddler and the Penguin. They are hoping to set the show through the eyes of a young Detective Gordon as he meets Bruce Wayne and we see how the Batman came to be as well as the Gotham villains.
In January, Kevin Reilley confirmed the following: "This is an origin story for young Bruce Wayne, and all of the classic Batman characters and villains would make an appearance, including: The Penguin, Catwoman,The Riddler, and The Joker."
Reilly also described the show to be very much like the Chritopher Nolan Gotham and that this is part of the DC franchise just not of the current universe and will not be connecting stories to the new Zack Snyder's "Batman vs. Superman".
Many fans are wondering how they are going to have a young Bruce Wayne and us be able to see him evolve into Batman but will he be too young? Reilley answered this way to that question "The actor will grow-up, if we do our job well he'll be a young man and ready to be Batman by the end," he said. "Which isn't to say we might not skip ahead."
"Gotham" is set to air this fall on Fox.
