Bruce Jenner's latest plastic surgery was driven by his obsession with looking young, a source told People.
"Bruce totally has this 'I may be an old man, but I'm cool and young too' syndrome, and no one can tell him otherwise," said an insider.
Jenner, 64, recently underwent plastic surgery to flatten his Adam's apple in a procedure known as a laryngeal shave. Rumors swirled that the surgery was the precursor to a sex-change operation, but Jenner's estranged wife, Kris Jenner, slammed the speculation.
"[The sex-change operation] is a story that they keep regurgitating from the '70s," Kris told USA Today. "Ninety-nine percent of the stuff in the tabloids is made up."
When asked why he got his Adam's apple flattened, Bruce said, "I just didn't like my trachea."
Meanwhile, sources close to the Jenner family said Bruce is trying to look young and hip following the breakup of his 22-year marriage. Bruce and Kris are still married but live in separate homes.
"Everything in the end of his marriage just became too much for him, and his freedom is really liberating," said a source. "He wanted to grow his hair long, so he did it. He wants to get manicures, so he gets them."
Jenner, who won the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, has made headlines for his numerous plastic surgeries over the years. Jenner got a nose job and a partial face-lift in 1984, and a second corrective face-lift in 2009.
Sources said Jenner has always been self-conscious about his looks. He previously revealed he suffered from deep insecurities as a child stemming from his dyslexia. Experts say Bruce's chronic plastic surgeries are a symptom of body dysmorphic disorder.
Meanwhile, numerous media reports say Bruce is quitting his family's hit reality TV show, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," after filming on this season wraps up.
