Browsing the modern internet

See also

There are many reasons to change your computer browsing habits from the past. For one, there are many vectors that can be exploited on your internet browser. Today's modern internet browser is much more complicated than the ones of the past. It has to interact with a wide array of plugins and scripts to make the content on the website you are viewing display correctly.
This leads to many attack vectors that did not exist 10 years ago. Luckily there are tools out there to help us keep our computers safe! Fist it's recommended using a browser like Firefox and or Google Chrome. They allow third party plugins to be installed into the browser. The one you want to download is called Noscript. This plugin will block all scripts from running on your browser and computer the moment you get to the page. This is a powerful plugin; it allows you to see all the different scripts that want to run on the website before they can. This gives you the opportunity to decide what you want running and what you don’t. For example, if the website had it’s own custom scripts that you feel are okay to run all you have to do is right click and allow that website. It’s really that simple!
It may take some getting used to, but over time you will become accustomed to what you should and should not allow running in the background on the various sites you browse to. This is an important skill do develop that will empower you as the user to become more conscious of what sites are doing in the background.
