Browns owner Jimmy Haslam says a homeless guy told him to draft Johnny Manziel

Last night was the first day of the much-awaited NFL Draft, which went about as expected. The Houston Texans chose Jadaveon Clowney with their first draft pick while quarterbacks Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles and Teddy Bridgewater also found NFL homes The only potential surprise was when the Dallas Cowboys passed on Manziel with their 16th pick. Before the draft, football analysts had mentioned that Jerry Jones was potentially looking at Tony Romo’s successor.

For weeks, sports talking heads on local and national radio became almost obsessive about trying to figure out which team would take Manziel; the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy. The award goes to the top collegiate player of the season. There was also a blip on the radar about him violating NCAA rules for selling memorabilia; the accusations disappeared as quickly as the story.

Based on Manziel’s combine results and collegiate football skills, Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said Manziel has the “it” factor. The Browns also had a chance to take Manziel with their fourth pick, but gave it to Buffalo. Then they had the option to take him with their eighth pick but took CB Justin Gilbert instead. NFL fans may wonder why the Browns didn’t take him sooner if he was so regarded.

According to Fox News, Jimmy Haslam, the owner of the Cleveland Browns said a homeless guy suggested that he draft Manziel. So did the owner tell his war room guys to listen to the homeless guy?

Perhaps Manziel can start a playoff run for the Browns and lead them to the Superbowl. But if history is any indicator, the odds of the Browns winning anything are unlikely. Eventually, Manziel will be the 21st guy to start for the Browns since the team returned in 1999. Here’s a look at all the Browns quarterbacks who have started at least one game since the return.
