Brown University and the Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Relationship Abuse, an associate of the Sarah Doyle Women's Center, are presenting their 2013 production of The Vagina Monologues from Thursday, April 11 to Saturday, April 13. All proceeds from the show will go to the Sojourner House, a center for advocacy and resource center for victims of domestic violence in Rhode Island.
The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play written by Eve Ensler which started as an off-Broadway play in 1996 and since then has been preformed around the country by numerous advocacy groups and universities. The show is based on interviews with dozens of women regarding sexuality, and intends to create new conversations regarding the stimga associated with rape and abuse. Each year a new monologue is introduced to the play to highlight an issue affecting women around the world.
The Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Relationship Abuse is associated with Brown's Sarah Doyle Women's Center and serves as the on-campus resource for issues regarding relationship abuse and personal empowerment. Their mission is to raise awareness and dispel myths about domestic violence, and to create a campus network to combat any form of domestic violence or relationship abuse. The play will be performed on Thursday, April 11 and Friday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. The Thursday and Saturday performances will be located in the List Art Building, at 64 College Street, in room 120. The Friday performance is going to be in the Metcalf Chemistry Building Auditorium, at 190-194 Thayer Street. Tickets for students with Brown identification are $3, while general admission is $5.
