Tax increases proposed Thursday by California Gov. Jerry Brown would be paid by everyone.
The tax proposal calls for increases in both sales and income taxes.
Sales taxes would increase by one-half of one percent.
Most Fresno County residents would see their sales tax increase from 7.975 percent to 8.475.
Residents of the Fresno County communities of Reedley and Selma would see their sales tax increase to 8.975 percent, while Sanger residents would have a sales tax of 9.225 percent.
Most residents of Merced County would pay 7.75 percent. The sales tax rate in Merced, Gustine and Los Banos, however, would be 8.25 percent.
The income tax would go up for California residents making $250,000 or more.
The tax hike would be one percent for single filers with incomes of $250,000-$300,000; joint filers with incomes of $500,000-$600,000; and heads of households making $340,000-$408,000.
The tax increase would be 1.5 percent for single filers making $300,001-$500,000; joint filers making $600,001-$1 million; and heads of households making $408,001-$680,000.
The highest increase, 2 percent, would fall on singles with incomes over $500,000; join filers making more than $1 milion; and heads of households making more than $680,000.
