Broward unemployment rate drops to five percent

There is good news for working people in Broward County.

The Broward County unemployment has decreased to five percent for the month of December compared to 6.6 percent one year ago. Over the past year 20,500 jobs have been added to the county, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, in an article by Marcia Heroux Pounds in the January 25 Sun Sentinel.

"I am glad more people are getting back to work. I work in the retail industry and if more people are shopping I make more money," said Jennifer Gold.

"It is good that things are getting better for working people. I work in construction and things were slow for awhile. But now jobs are starting to come back," said Wayne Jackson.
