The 2014 Florida Democratic Gubernatorial Primary race unofficially began today, as candidates Charlie Crist and Nan Rich were been formally invited to debate one another in Broward County. Proposed on a date and format mutually acceptable to both candidates, the invitation was issued jointly by Broward Days, a non-partisan Broward County-based legislative advocacy organization, and Broward College, which has offered to host the event at its centrally located Bailey Concert Hall in the Town of Davie.
“The debate will give each candidate a chance to address their individual perspectives on the wide range of issues that affect Florida, as well as provide Floridians with an opportunity to learn more about the two candidates and their visions for the future,” Broward Days Chairman Mike Colodny said.
The joint Broward Days/Broward College invitation is the first that has been formally issued since Nan Rich, who most recently served in elected office as Minority Leader of the Florida Senate, invited former Florida Governor Crist to debate her in early November, 2013. Mr. Crist indicated he was open to the idea.
It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the debate. Crist is nothing if not a true politician, but that might just be what the state of Florida needs right now. The Elections Examiner will strive to bring you the latest campaign information from all sides of the political spectrum.
