Appointed by former Governor Bob Martinez in 1989, Robinson is the chair of Broward County Court’s criminal division. Prior to that appointment she had been a general magistrate serving for approximately four years.
According to several sources, Judge Robinson slumped over her bench about 5 p.m. on Wednesday. A medical examiner in the courtroom started CPR and helped bailiffs operate a defibrillator machine in an effort to revive her.
"We don't know at this time," Stacy McMenemy, judicial assistant to Chief Circuit Judge Peter Weinstein, told the Daily Business Review. "All we do know is that she is in the hospital."
The wife of Broward Circuit Judge Michael Robinson, Mary Rudd Robinson was most recently re-elected in 2010 by an overwhelming majority.
“Thoughts and prayers go out to the Robinson family, as Mary remains in critical condition following a mid-trial collapse yesterday afternoon around 5:00 PM," stated Bill Gelin of JAABlog, a well known South Florida courthouse blog. “Obviously this is a time to respect the Robinson family’s privacy, but in light of the fact mainstream media is aware of the situation and the abundant courthouse rumors, this has been posted.”
