Broward County saw an increase of 4,200 construction jobs in June an increase of 13 percent from last year, according to a report by the Associated General Contractors contained in an article by Marcia Heroux Pounds in the August 2 Sun Sentinel.

Most of those jobs involved specialty contracting in areas such as concrete finishing, electrical wiring and other specialized areas, according to the Florida's Department of Economic Opportunity in an article by Marcia Heroux Pounds in the August 2 Sun Sentinel.

Many construction workers are thrilled that they can get back to work and in some situations work for much higher wages. They remember when times were not so good. "I remember during the recession, it was almost impossible to find a job," said Bob Hanks. He is a carpenter.

"I received five job offers in the past two weeks. There are many housing projects now under development and I expect the opportunities will only continue. Now is a good time to be in the building trades," said Jonathan Adair. He is a plumber.

"I think now is a good time to be in the construction industry. There are a lot of jobs opening up and more people want knew homes. I have been able to work about 60 to 70 hours a week and I am making good money," said Jack Bradshaw. He is a carpenter.

"Hopefully the good times will last. I am working a lot now but I have to make up for about two years when I was only able to work a few days a week. Now, more people want homes. Also, I have received offers to help people remodel their homes. A lot of people want new dens or additions to their existing homes. I feel fortunate to be able to work so much now," said Zachery Poole.

Many people struggled during the recent recession. The economy was bad and people in the construction industry were often unable to find regular work. Those in the construction industry hope the new trend with more demand for homes will go there way.
