Brothers in North Carolina fight, dog defending one man is killed

A dog who tried to defend his guardian from a violent attack, wound up being killed by the alleged attacker in West End, N.C.

According to Wednesday's NBC 17 News, two brothers were involved in an altercation on Sunday in the Cloverwood Lane area of Moore County.

Kelvin Harris, 19, told responding deputies that his brother, Damon Harris, 21, tried to attack him with a golf club.

According to the Faye Observer, Kelvin Harris told the authorities that his dog, a pit bull, tried to defend him from the attack by putting himself between the men and then biting Damon Harris on the arm.

At that point, Damon Harris allegedly began to strike the dog with the golf club.

Kelvin Harris told officials that his brother then went to get a gun from his vehicle and returned to shoot and kill the dog.

Damon Harris was charged with felony possession of a firearm, and felony cruelty to animals, and was taken to the Moore County Detention Center on a $50,000 secured bond.

The deadly argument allegedly started over something which had been purchased and was then taken by one brother, from the other.
