Theatre in Noho and You're Invited! Wanna Come Play?
AUDITIONS! 12/4 & 12/6!
Los Angeles December 2011 - Fairy tales don't just come true on the silver screen in Hollywood. Noho is having a season of its own storytellers, storytelling, and stories, and more stories, and then some more stories for everyone from 3 to 103. In a few days from now Limecat Productions, the family theatre leg of Zombie Joe's Underground Theatre (ZJU) will be holding auditions for Mia Truxaw's Brothers Grimm, Sisters Wild, and you have the opportunity to be a part of this legendary theatre company, and be a part of making fairy tales come true.
Brothers Grimm, Sisters Wild is a tale about tales. While somewhat fictionalized, it illustrates how Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm began collecting German folk tales with the help of their neighbors, Dorothy and Gretchen Wild. Wilhelm eventually married Dorothy who aided in the brothers’ work for many years. This is the story of how it started. The storytelling tradition captured by Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm along with their neighbors, and lively characterizations through magical transformations, surprises and maybe a few puppets. It is also the story about who they collected the stories from. Included in this production are the fairy tales of "The Frog Prince", "The Iron Stove", "The Princess in Disguise", "King Thrushbeard", "Jorinda and Joringel", and references to many others.
While billed as a children's show, Brothers Grimm and Sisters Wild is truly for all ages. It neither talks down to children nor talks over their heads. The script stays true to the original tales. These aren't the Disney versions of the tales, though the script has tempered some of the darker aspects of the tales to ensure an enjoyable experience for all including those on stage. Exploring all the aspects of traditional story telling, the performances also explore important attributes of the tales and the theatrical traditions of the period.
Creator, Mia Truxaw, MA, MFA, became enamored of the Grimms and Wilds story while doing research for her Master's Thesis, "The Use of Fairy Tales in Theatre for Children." She is still surprised how most people misunderstand the Grimms and their tales; and why the Wilds are not given their due.
Mia will be assisted in directing by her husband, Danny Truxaw, MFA. (Their personal love story that started in college and resulted in their thirty-five years of marriage is a fairy tale in itself — but that's for the next update on Brothers Grimm, Sisters Wilde.)
Auditions are: Sunday, Dec 4th, 11am to 1:50pm
Tuesday Dec 6th, 6pm to 7:50pm
