Brothers dead in murder-suicide

Two brothers are dead following an apparent murder-suicide Tuesday afternoon in Montreal North.

Police were called to a duplex on Plaza Avenue early in the afternoon and found the bodies of the brothers, aged 58 and 60. Their 83-year-old mother was also there with traces of blood on her. Police say they believe Giovanni Iafigliola shot his older brother Antonio before turning the gun on himself. The mother was treated for nervous shock.

Christina Della Ripa arrived on the scene after getting a panicked call from her brother-in-law. She said she knew the family through her sister who was friends with the sister of Iafigliola brothers. Della Ripa and her sister live in the neighbourhood and said that all the families have been there for over 40 years.

"I was shocked. They're such nice people," Della Ripa said.

"It's so sad."

Della Ripa said the Iafigliolas were already dealing with another family tragedy: the 25-year-old daughter of one of the brothers died recently of cancer and her funeral was held last week.
