On Saturday, September 21, 2013, Brother Robert Cassizzi, OSF was ordained a Deacon in the Ecumenical Catholic Communion during a standing-room only 5:00 P.M. Mass at the Parish of Saints Francis and Clare in Fort Lauderdale. The Right Reverend Steven M. Rosczewski, the Bishop of the Florida Diocese of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion, was the Ordaining Bishop.
The Bishop, in his homily before the Ordination, spoke not only to Brother Robert, but also to everyone gathered at the Church about responding to God's call to become the ones God created them to be even when they would rather do anything else but God's will. The Bishop reminded Brother Robert that becoming a Deacon meant letting go of life as he knew it and embracing a new life of service. The Bishop called Brother Robert a doorkeeper and challenged him to open the door of the Church to all who wish to partake in the Bread of Life.
Along with the congregation of the Parish of Saints Francis and Clare, eleven members of Bishop Rosczewski's parish, Holy Spirit Ecumenical Catholic Church made the trip from Largo, Florida. A reception was held after the Mass.
