Senior quarterback Caleb Brooks made the most of his first start in the 2013 football season leading the Dayton Broncos (4-4, 3-3) past the Porter Spartans 38-0 on Friday night.
Brooks rushed for three touchdowns and threw for one as the Broncos dominated Porter in a driving rain storm. The senior signal caller scored on runs of 8, 5, and 7 yards giving Dayton a 21-0 first quarter lead. Omar Serrano made it 24-0 with a 20 yard field with under five minutes to play in the opening half. Brooks closed out the first half connecting with Brandon McBride over the middle for a 49 yard scoring strike with less than a minute.
The Broncos continued to dominate in the second as newly inserted running back TK Haley rushed for 126 yards on 10 carries and scored the only touchdown of the second half on a 19 yard run with1:09 left in the third quarter.
Head coach Jowell Hancock was pleased with his team's performance.
"Proud for all the kids. We were able to run the ball under adverse conditions. Credit Drew Schmidt and our "O" line for us being able to run the ball well under adverse weather conditions. The offense took care of the ball in a rain game. Our defense played well behind Daniel Douglas who led us in tackles. We have worked hard from week one and our performance last night showed it."
The win wiped away the sting of two consecutive defeats and kept the Broncos in the playoff hunt.
