Brooklyn Nets trade rumors have a Josh Smith trade on the radar now. The Nets want this trade badly and have already engaged in discussions with the Atlanta Hawks. According to a report from late Sunday night (Feb. 10), "there has been lots of talk" in these negotiations already.
If the Nets could find a way to pry Smith away from the Hawks without giving up any starters, they could sport the best starting rotation in the NBA. The team might have to sacrifice a bit of its depth in order to pull off a deal like this, but it might be worth it to make a serious run in the postseason.
In a potential deal, it would likely take at least Kris Humphries and MarShon Brooks to get things started, but the Nets might have to give up another young player and several picks to close the deal. It might also require the Nets to take on some salary that the Hawks want to get rid of, possibly including Anthony Morrow returning.
The Nets have been playing very well this season and currently sport a record of 29-22. The team is definitely heading to the 2013 Eastern Conference Playoffs, but the roster could certainly use a boost in offense and defense. Currently the team is in fifth place in the East, but they are only two games out of the No. 3 slot. Pulling off a Josh Smith trade could give the team a huge boost in momentum though.
These Brooklyn Nets trade rumors appear to be pretty advanced, but the deal still isn't reported to be imminent. If the Atlanta Hawks make this trade, it might cause them to plummet in the standings, possibly opening the door for a team to catch them and sneak into the playoffs.
