Brooklyn Nets trade rumors about a Brook Lopez trade appear to be nothing more than rumors. According to a report from late Tuesday night (Jan. 22), the Nets have decided to back Lopez and put an end to the rumored interest in acquiring Dwight Howard.
This is a really big move for the franchise, especially because it could put Lopez’s mind at ease when it comes to his future in the league. The reassurance that Lopez isn’t going to be involved in any trade proposals is also good for team unity and fan support moving forward.
As fantasy basketball owners are well aware, Lopez is having a really good season. Through the games of Jan. 22, Lopez is averaging 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game. He is also hitting on 51.7 percent of his shots from the field and doing all of this in just 29.5 minutes a night. Those are numbers that just about every team in the NBA would be happy to get from a starting center.
Though there are certain to be more Brooklyn Nets trade rumors popping up before the NBA trade deadline, any suggestions of a Brook Lopez trade should be cast aside. The Nets now have a 25-16 record and are developing a really good chemistry with their core players. A trade at this point might disrupt all of that and derail what the franchise is trying to build. That nice new contract he got in the offseason should also be another indicator as to how invested the franchise has become in Lopez.
