A silent auction evening featuring eco-friendly collections and eco-destinations
If art imitates life, then arguably fashion inspires it all! Beginning February 28 through March 3, Brooklyn Fashion Weekend will celebrate its 15th season featuring the Fall/Winter 2013 collections of emerging and established designers from around the world. On February 28, famed eco-art designer, Luis Valenzuela will host as the Opening Keynote Speaker and Headline Designer of the eco-friendly evening and auction. Industry City (located at 241 37th Street) in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, will host the event for a fourth season. www.bushterminal.com
Valenzuela specializes in “art to wear” and is an avant-garde visual artist, using only recycled materials and organic fabrics in his work. Valenzuela, is an advocate for the Zero Waste movement and his haute couture has been displayed at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., featured in Vogue Italy and Elle Magazine and carried in special shows at Bloomingdales. www.luisvalenzuelausa.com
Build A Better Planet (BABP), a non-profit organization promoting sustainability, will partner with BKFW to curate the eco-friendly event (www.buildabetterplanet.org). The evening will focus on promoting awareness about protecting the environment through fashion and raise funding for supporting charities of BKFW including (Soles4Souls, the Paul Robeson Theatre, and SCIP).
