Facebook got another black eye on Thurs., Jan. 24 thanks to a WCBS-TV report about a Brooklyn man soliciting a 10-year-old girl for sex while online.
Suffolk County Police Computer Crimes Unit investigated the case and learned that John Burke, 35, a friend of the victim's family, allegedly sent the child indecent material and propositioned her for a sex act.
Burke was arrested on Wednesday and was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in First District Court. Due to the victim's age her identity has not been released.
In another case involving a Facebook user, the Indychannel.com reported on Thursday that a 20-year-old man is facing felony charges for having sex with a 12-year-old girl after they met on Facebook.
In that case evidence was recovered of a penis photo and explicit text messages sent from William Anthony McPhearson to the child, who told police she agreed to oral sex and intercourse willingly.
Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings warned the media that there are now "more and more cases of adults developing relationships with children online."
