Randall Martinez,33, of Bronx, NY, committed over 100 robberies of narcotics traffickers in New York and elsewhere as a member of a violent robbery crew. Today it was announced by Loretta E. Lynch, U. S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and James J. Hunt, Acting Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Division, that Martinez was sentenced to 264 months in prison by U. S. District Judge Sandra L. Townes at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn.

Since January 2001, Martinez, as a member of the violent robbery crew, helped as members posed as law enforcement to stage fake arrests of traffickers and seized their contraband. Members would often times show their firearms and restrain their victims by handcuffing them, sometimes with rope or duct tape. On occasion they would physically assault their victims. Crew members sold the stolen drugs, mostly heroin and cocaine and divided the proceeds among themselves.

Martinez is known to have participated in at least 22 separate robberies and attempted robberies. It is also known that he personally entered the residences on at least nine occasions, in which he and other member brandished guns. On one occasion, Martinez brought two firearms to the scene of a robbery and acted as the lookout for the robbery crew while a victim was strangled to death in the residence. The robberies and attempted robberies in which Martinez directly participated involved at least 600 kilograms of cocaine and approximately $434,000 in drug proceeds. Agents seized 107 kilograms of cocaine from these robberies.

The case involved the cooperation of the New York Drug Enforcement Task Force which comprises of agents and officers from the DEA, New York City Police Department and the New York State Police, and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations.
