Bronx man who allegedly dismembered mother wears garbage bag to court

Bahsid McLean, 23, has been charged with murdering and dismembering his mother. He allegedly stabbed Tanya Byrd, 45, and chopped up her body. McLean had another man help him commit this vicious crime.

Based on information from a medical examiner, this New York man first stabbed his mother in the neck before dismembering her.

Then when McLean appeared in court on Thursday, he wore a garbage bag and claimed “he’d done nothing wrong,” according to Fox News.

Byrid was “last seen alive Monday.” On Tuesday, a neighbor’s dog discovered her body parts that were dispersed “along four blocks,” said police.

McLean's lawyer, Jerry Iannece, said he wore the garbage bag because he needed something dry to wear since he urinated on himself. Iannece also said “his client was off his medication, but didn't say what type.”

Unsurprisingly, McLean was held without bail and placed on suicide watch, according to Fox News.

Iannece explained, "Everybody's innocent until proven guilty…Obviously this is a troubling case, but we will investigate and defend it thoroughly."

In the past, McLean was arrested several times. One of those arrests happened after he assaulted two police officers in Brooklyn in 2010.

“McLean and an acquaintance, William Harris, 26, were first arrested on charges of unlawfully dissecting a human body and hindering prosecution. Each man initially implicated the other the killing, authorities said.”
