Just as Denver Broncos fans were trying to forget about the playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Jan. 12, 2013, one look at Sports Authority Field at Mile High will bring back the heartbreak. Bronco Country is outraged to see a giant photo of Joe Flacco on the outside of their home stadium; the NFL hung the banner of quarterbacks Flacco and Peyton Manning yesterday to promote the first game of the 2013 season when the Broncos host the Ravens next Thursday.
The bitter taste of defeat still lingers within all Broncos fans. The defeat to the eventual Super Bowl champions on a freezing January evening will not be forgotten any time soon. A petition directed at commissioner Roger Goodell has surpassed 2,000 signatures to remove the Joe Flacco signage from the Broncos’ stadium. There are similar Flacco banners hung up along downtown Denver’s 16th Street Mall, some of which have been defaced.
These banners are adding fuel to the fire that will be a revenge match for Bronco fans. If Goodell concedes to the demands of Bronco fans, he will have to replace the Flacco banner with a different player. If it comes to that, a Rahim Moore banner would quite possibly be the worst replacement for Flacco.
