Broken hearted bonded chihuahuas dumped at shelter when owner died

Reggie and Little Bit are eight-year-old bonded chihuahuas who are now heartbroken. A neighbor brought them into the high kill San Bernardino City Animal Shelter after their owner died; no one from their owner's family ever showed up.

A shelter volunteer was in the lobby as the dogs arrived and listened as the neighbor described the dogs pampered past lives:

"She used to walk with them; so very good on leash. Indoor dogs, who eat kibble with cooked chicken regularly. They have only known love. They are good with kids and other animals; just two easy going boys. On stray hold, please try to pull them together. They had no clue what was happening; they were enjoying our company and I think thought they were just out on an errand. And then "whammo" life changed again; first their person died and now this."

It's doubtful anyone can even imagine the confusion and utter despair these two dogs must be feeling in a shelter filled with strangers and loud barking echoing through the aisles as they are being held in a small kennel cage.

Both dogs are healthy, well groomed, neutered and have received all of their vaccinations through the years. They are now on "stray hold" and will be eligible for adoption on August 19.
