James Mercer (The Shins) and record producer/musician Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton stepped onto St Louis’ Pageant nightclub stage to a throng of fans eager to here the duo live. Their musical performance was spot on and the stage setup (lighting and video) were a seamless fit for the ample hooks and dance-centric mood music being delivered. The balance between traditional instruments and studio machines was struck perfectly; Broken Bells LIVE sound was raw and not overly produced for this concert. Burton transitioned a few times between drums, bass, and keys while Mercer delivered his “like butta” vocals and rhythm guitar flawlessly. The Pageant on the Delmar Loop has done a great job in the past with their sound and tonight was no different. The sound guys were dialed into what Broken Bells were serving up. Bravo to ALL involved!
What started from a random secret side project in 2008; Broken Bells continue to develop enormous love from fans and acclaim from critics.
Broken Bells follow up album “After the Disco” was released this spring and continues the journey; exploring the depths of these two artists conscious. For better or worse strap us in, we are down for this journey.
The Broken Bells continue their N American summer tour with dates thru August hitting Chicago (Lolla) and Minneapolis.
