Broadway's 'Wicked' arrives at Broward Center for three-week run

Broadway's biggest blockbuster, "Wicked" returns to Fort Lauderdale for a three-week engagement on Wednesday, Jan. 30.

"Broward Center for the Performing Arts was home to the South Florida debut of the acclaimed Broadway musical "Wicked" and we are thrilled to see it return here," said Kelley Shanley, the center's president and CEO. "We know many theater-goers return to 'Wicked' time and time again, and we look forward to welcoming them here," Shanley added.

The musical recounts another famous story about the Land of Oz, one that occurred long before that tornado deposited a dog-toting girl by the name of Dorothy there. Instead, this plot centers around two other girls; Elphaba, who is fiery, smart and born with emerald green skin and the beautiful, blond, ambitious Glinda. They will grow up to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good, of course.

The charm of this musical, though, is all in the telling, and the show tells its story well indeed. "Wicked" has garnered 35 major awards, including one Grammy and three Tony awards, in addition to smashing box office records around the world.

"Wicked" will play through Feb. 17. Tickets start at $34.50 and group rates are available.
