Broadway's Christopher Sieber will take on the role of Edna Turnblad this fall at the Papermill Playhouse's production of Hairspray. The role was originated on Broadway by Harvey Fierstein and played in the movie version by John Travolta. Mr Sieber got in a practice run on the role this summer when he played the role at the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, Massachusetts.
Mr. Sieber has distinguished himself on Broadway as an actor of many talents in a variety of roles. He has appeared in Beauty and the Beast, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and the 2002 revival of Into the Woods. In 2004, Mr. Sieber originated the role of Sir Dennis Galahad in the Broadway musical Monty Python's Spamalot, which premiered in March 2005. He was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for this role. Most recently, he originated the role of Lord Farquaad in Shrek the Musical for which he also received a Tony nomination.
