Broadwater hoop teams advance in state tournament

On Tuesday night, February 26th, the Broadwater boy’s basketball team survived a four-overtime thriller in the first round of the VISAA Division III State Tournament. Broadwater held on in the final seconds to defeat Tidewater Academy 73-70. Broadwater was led in scoring by junior forward, Brendon Burrows, who finished with 28 points. All-Metro Conference selection, Michael Riopel also finished with 18 points for Broadwater. Broadwater advances to face Christ Chapel tonight (February 27th) in the state quarterfinals.

The girl’s team also won last night with a 44-36 victory over Fredericksburg Academy. Broadwater was led by senior Kristen Lewis who finished the game with 26 points and 10 rebounds. The girl’s team will also be in action tonight in the state quarterfinals versus Wakefield School.

Broadwater Academy is located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Broadwater is the only school located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia that is currently still competing in postseason basketball. For more information on the VISAA state playoffs, click here.
