Brittany Murphy and prescription drugs

Brittany Murphy's death from an adverse reaction to prescription drugs has not been ruled out, and won't be known until the toxicology report comes back in 4 to 6 weeks.

The actress is scheduled to be buried Thursday in a private ceremony People reported on the 24th of  December.

The popular actress died Sunday, the 20th from what was initially ruled a heart attack. Brittany was found unresponsive in her home, and was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead after numerous attempts to revive her failed.

The Internet has been flush with rumors, speculation, and hints about the actresses ailing physical health, psychological problems, and drug use as the reason for her death. However, we just don't know the real cause, but from this angle, it looks like her ailing physical, and mental health, along with at least some of the drugs discovered on a nightstand in her home, are responsible for Brittany's death.

It isn't a suggestion that Brittany was abusing this medication, but that her frail medical, and psychological condition couldn't take the added stress of chemicals in her system causing her heart to shut down.

The prescription drugs found in her home were: Topamax (anti-seizures, and for migraine headaches), Methylprednisolone (anti-inflammatory), Fluoxetine (for depression), Klonopin (for anxiety, benzodiazepine), Carbamazepine (helps diabetic symptoms, and used as a bipolar med), Ativan (for anxiety, benzodiazepine), Vicoprofen (painkiller), Propranolol (hypertension, used to prevent heart attacks), Biaxin (antibiotic), Hydrocodone (painkiller) and various vitamins.

The benzodiazepines, hydrocodone, and Vicoprofen are highly addictive drugs. Ativan and Klonopin should never be taken together because they do the same thing, so there is no reason to be taking them together, let alone with opiates. These drugs can kill you, flat-out.

So many young people today are abusing these kinds of medications, and even if they are not abusing them, the drugs are still dangerous. The unrealistic belief that prescription drugs are safe because they are prescribed by a physician are ruining many, many lives. A lot of teens have died from these drugs in the last couple of years alone, and it is getting worse.

Whether or not Brittany suffered from some kind of reaction to these prescription drugs, and it is looking more and more like she may have, the possibility still exists that she wasn't abusing the drugs, but that they abused her to the point of taking her life. Her death, if this is the way it happened, is yet another powerful reminder that these drugs have warning labels on them for a reason.
