Penrose wrote the note as she was battling brain cancer. She was on a date with her boyfriend at the time, Aaron Lanari, in Oceanside, Calif. and he encouraged her to write the note. She did, and then she tossed the bottle into the ocean.
Last week, Javier Sanchez, 14, found the bottle on Boonie Beach Road in Guam. Sanchez and his fellow students broke open the bottle, and their teacher posted a video online of the note from Penrose being read. The bottle Brittanie Penrose tossed into the ocean had traveled about 6,200 miles over the past three years.
Both Penrose and Lanari are amazed the message in the bottle has been found, and had both really forgotten about it until now. Happily Brittanie Penrose is now free of cancer. These days with so many headlines in the news being related to the government shutdown or other tense political topics, many find the Brittanie Penrose story to be a fun breath of fresh air.
