Britney Spears has a new album and will begin her two-year Las Vegas residency Dec. 27, but says preparing for her grueling 96-show performance schedule requires lots of work and plenty of sleep.

"I need to rehearse more now than I did before,” Spears, 32, told the Telegraph. “There are more expectations of me now, not just in terms of what I do, but also in terms of who I am.”

Britney is doing yoga and cardio workouts to build stamina. Spears, who follows a low-carb diet, is fit but admits her day-long dance rehearsals for her Vegas revue take their toll.

I feel like an old fart. And believe it or not, I ended up liking going to bed early, in a weird way. At night, that’s when you mess up, so if you go to bed at 9:30, you’re good.”

By "messing up," Britney was referring to her past days of nonstop drinking and partying with ex-pals like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan — both of whom have been arrested for DUI and went to rehab for drug addiction.

While Spears leads a regimented and quiet life these days, it was just five years the pop princess was placed on suicide watch.

Between 2006 and 2008, Britney suffered several highly publicized emotional breakdowns that required hospitalization for drug abuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

Fortunately, all that drama is in past, as Spears focuses on her happy home life with her sons, Sean, 8, and Jayden, 7.

During the day, Spears is busy with dance rehearsals for her “Britney: Piece of Me” Vegas revue. Spears, who'll earn $300,000 a night, really wants to put on a good show.

“Vegas is definitely a new challenge,” she said. “You get to do so much more when you don’t have to put your stage in trucks after the show every night. It’s going to be more like a party than a typical concert.”

Britney, who has experienced stunning highs and abysmal lows during her young life, hopes to inspire fans with her music and her struggles.

"I’ve always followed my heart and pursued my dreams, and I imagine people find that inspiring," she said. "I hope that is the effect I have on my fans and people in general. I definitely want to project a positive energy out into the world.”
