Britney Spears: My chiseled abs resulted from yoga workouts and low-carb diet

Britney Spears' rigorous workout and diet regimen refutes rumors that her abs were painted on.

Spears, 32, does hour-long cardio sessions on top of 90-minute yoga workouts several days a day. She also trains several hours a day doing dance rehearsals for her Las Vegas residency.

ā€œIā€™m doing 90 minutes of yoga twice a week in addition to a lot of cardio ā€” hour-long sessions three times a week with my trainer, Tony Martinez,ā€ said Britney.

Spears also follows a healthy, balanced low-carb diet and tries to limit sugar and junk food. Last month, she revealed that she was doing the "hardest workouts of my life" preparing for her 98-show Vegas revue.

"These intense workouts have really been excruciating. It's probably the hardest workout I've ever done in my life, getting ready for this show. I look back at my other tours, and I'm doing more songs here than I've ever done. And it's just way more, the speed of the dancing throughout."

Britney launched her two-year residency on Dec. 27, 2013. She'll perform four days a week and will shuttle back and forth between Las Vegas and her home in Los Angeles.

It's an exhausting schedule for anyone, let alone a mom of two who just five years ago was placed on suicide watch and forcibly hospitalized after a series of nervous breakdowns. But Spears says performing is her therapy and provides a release for her pent-up emotions.

It's in my blood to perform. Performing is my therapy, to become different people onstage. I'm a hometown girl, and my personality at home is the opposite of the performer in me. But then, when I'm home and haven't done anything for a while, I get really itchy and nervous and weird-feeling."

Britney's hectic schedule is daunting, but she said she prefers being busy to being inactive. "I know nearly 100 shows sounds like a lot, but I'm excited," said Spears.

"I'm the type of person who, if I don't have enough to do, I go crazy. I have to stay busy. Performing gives me a fearless feeling, like you can conquer anything."

Still, doing daily dance rehearsals, performing and juggling her busy home life take their toll. When she's not performing, Spears is in bed by 9:30 every night.
