Allegedly, Britney Spears quits "X Factor" amid rumors that Simon Cowell was planning to fire her. The quirky, but popular judge on "The X Factor" follows L.A. Reid out the door, citing that she too wants to focus on her music career. What's up with these once-and-done judges on Cowell's watch?
TMZ first broke the story on Jan. 9. And based on its' "unimpeachable sources," Britney Spears quit "X Factor" to work on her eighth album. She is currently in the recording studio with Will.i.am and producer Hit-Boy.
Fox's Chairman of Entertainment, Kevin Reilly, said this about Spears' departure:
"I thought it went very, very well. It was fraught with unknowns, and I think Britney did a very good job. People are fascinated with her and always will be. Last year the ratings were a little bit higher, but I think it was a better show this year. I think she tucked in really nicely on the bench."
Ah ha, the cat is out the bag and it's all because of that dastardly word, "ratings."
Be fair about it; when it comes to a business and money -- A-Lister or not -- even celebrities like Britney Spears are expendable.
On the opposing side of this story, some sources believe Britney Spears quit "The X Factor" because she wanted to save face before Simon Cowell gave her the boot.
TVGuide.com confirms its sources said the erstwhile judge was abandoning ship because she learned Cowell was allegedly not renewing her contract. Imagine that?
Now that Britney Spears quit "X Factor," who do you believe producers have in mind for a replacement? Just don't let it be another Kardashian, right?
