Former "X Factor" U.S. judge Britney Spears got mostly negative reviews for being a judge on the show in 2012. And according to a Chicago Tribune report, celebrity interviewers in Chicago don't think much of her speaking skills either, since they named Spears the worst interview of 2013. In an informal poll, Chicago Tribune entertainment writer Luis Gomez asked Chicago DJs and journalists who was their worst interview of 2013. And Spears was the celebrity who was named the most as the worst interview
Meanwhile, the E! Entertainment News special "I Am Britney Jean," featuring an exclusive interview with Spears, premiered on Dec. 22, 2013. According to KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, the special revealed the set list for Spears' "Piece of Me" residency concerts, which begin on Dec. 27, 2013, at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. (See the set list at the end of the article.)
Even though Spears denies that she lip syncs in concert, many people are predicting that she will not be singing live for most of her "Piece of Me" show.
As for the Chicago Tribune poll naming Spears as the worst interview of 2013, Jamar "J Niice" McNeil of "The J Show" on Chicago radio station B96 said: “Least favorite interview this year was Britney Spears. She was not at all interested in her own new album, her new single or her Vegas residency show,” of Chicago’s told Gomez. She wasn’t interested in the interview. Why’d her label make her do this? Waste. I would’ve rather spent that time with a corpse. No, like really. A corpse ‘off gasses,’ might twitch, decomposes, bloats — pretty interesting stuff. Britney Spears? Two words: Nothing there.”
McNeill's "J Show" colleague Michelle "Showbiz Shelly" Menaker agreed: “The worst interview of the year had to be Britney Spears. While she has catchy songs and cool music videos, it was almost a struggle for her to form a sentence. She might have been nervous, but it was tough for her to elaborate on things as simple as her new Vegas Show.”
Christopher “Brotha' Fred” Frederick, 103.5 Kiss FM’s “Fred + Angi In The Morning” commented: “While I wouldn't say it was my least favorite, as we are always happy to talk to Britney Spears, she just seemed disconnected. It was difficult to get more than a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ from her. But she did tell us she ‘never’ lip syncs, and that surprised more than just us as it made national news.”
Spears' eighth studio album, "Britney Jean," debuted at No. 4 in the U.S. on the Billboard 200 chart and outside the Top 10 in most other countries. Although the album isn't a complete flop, it's her lowest-selling studio album so far, according to Billboard, which reported that "Britney Jean" sold only 107,000 copies in the U.S. in the album's first week. "Britney Jean" also got mixed reviews from critics.
The album's first single, "Work Bitch," was a Top 40 hit in most countries (it peaked at No. 12 in the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100 chart), but second single "Perfume" bombed and failed to reach the Top 40 in most countries. In the U.S., "Perfume" peaked at No. 76 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In an interview with E! News, Spears had this to say about retiring from showbiz: "I have thought about it, but I think right now is my time to perform and doing what I'm doing."
She also said that her sons (Sean Preston and Jayden) from her marriage to ex-husband Kevin Federline might follow in Federline's footsteps and become a dancer. Federline was Spears' backup dancer when they began dating in 2004. The got married that same year, but the marriage ended jut three years later. "I'm sure they will," Spears said about her songs becoming dancers. "Preston, he's already dancing up a storm. He shows all my dancers how he can dance. It's really funny."
She added, "If I happen to have another baby or something like that, I'd probably move back to Louisiana. I do miss Louisiana. I miss the people. I miss the food. I miss the way of life, how everything is really simple. There's no traffic like there is in L.A. It's really nice."
