Britney Spears music is a secret weapon for the ships sailing in the Somali pirate riddled waters off the coast of Africa. These Somali pirates hate Britney Spears music, so this is the music blasted by the merchant navy guiding these ships through these dangerous waters and it works, according to the Mirror on Oct. 27.
The Somali pirates can’t stand Western culture and music and Britney Spears music is the epitome of just that! “Oops I Did It Again” and “Baby Baby” are what is heard on the high seas and it is working in deterring the pirates whose M.O. is to pull along one of these merchant ships in their high-speed skiffs.
According to Second Officer Rachel from Aberfoyle in Scotland, Britney Spears songs were picked by the security team that accompanies the tankers when sailing in the pirate infested waters. The hot spot off the African Coast sees kidnapping attempts on a frequent basis.
In 2011, the pirates were successful only 25 times out of the 176 attempted attacks on ships. They board the ships and take people hostage. They then ask for a big ransom for the safe return of the hostages.
Rachel, whose recent escorting trips include a fishing vessel and a cruise ship, said that when the gun-toting pirates come near the ships, the speakers are pointed right at them for a maximum effect. She continued saying:
“The speakers can be aimed solely at the pirates so as not to disturb the crew.
“They’re so effective the ship’s security rarely needs to resort to firing guns - as soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney they move on as quickly as they can.”
Each security team working with the ships sailing in that area will have their own choice of music, but Britney Spears is known to get the job done!
