Rumors that "X Factor" was about to axe Britney Spears were reported to be false on Thursday. That being said, sources say that Spears will still not be a judge on the reality talent show next season, but that instead of it being Simon Cowell's choice, it's hers.
That's right, according to TMZ, it has "unimpeachable sources" that say that while Spears loves doing the show, she wants to get back to focusing on her music.
That's already in the case, as Spears is currently in the studio recording what will be her 8th album. One source said:
Britney loves Simon, she likes Demi Lovato, but her thing is music.
Once the album is complete, the report said that Britney may go on tour again.
Britney Spears was paid $15 million for her lone season on the "X Factor," so assuming she wasn't going to get the axe, she is walking about from considerable cash.
On the other hand, the earlier report was pretty clear, citing three independent sources that said Spears would be axed by the show. Could this "announcement" just be a way to cover up the truth?
At the time of the earlier report, an insider said,
They paid all that [$15 million] for her to say "amazing" and offer half-claps.
Reportedly, show creator Simon Cowell was expecting to get the "crazy" version of Spears, but instead received the version we saw: low-energy and quiet.
Of course, both the new report and the older report go against a report from Wednesday, which said Spears would return to "X Factor."
Both the earlier report and Wednesday's said that co-host (also in her first season) Demi Lovato would be axed, but did not elaborate on why.
