Britney Spears confirmed reports Friday that she will be leaving The X Factor after just one season.
As first reported by Us Weekly in December, the "Hold It Against Me" singer, 31, didn't impress TV execs during her stint on FOX series. "Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn't working," a source said.
With Spears being paid a reported $15 million, it was time to cut costs. "They paid all that for her to say 'amazing' and offer half-claps," a second insider said. Fellow judge and X Factor co-creator Simon Cowell, 53, "wanted crazy Britney, but he got boring Britney," another source added.
"I've made the very difficult decision not to return for another season. I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it's time for me to get back in the studio," Spears said in a statement released to Pop & Hiss on Friday
Spears' exit comes after record exec L.A. Reid announced he would be departing the show to turn his attention to running Epic Records, where a number of the show’s contestants, including inaugural winner Melanie Amaro, have secured deals.
Now, TMZ has reported that she and former agent Jason Trawick, who got engaged in 2011, is calling it quits. Their wedding was called off, which was apparently set for December 2012.
Trawick was Spears' co-conservator, along with her dad, Jamie Spears. In that role, he is in charge of her finances and other decisions; the singer has been under the legal conservatorship since melting down in early 2008.
Sources say it was a "friendly breakup" and Britney and Jason will remain friends. As for why they split, we're told they just "grew apart."
