Do people still hold it against Britney that she went a little crazy?
Britney Spears’ ex-manager, Sam Lufti would love to have Britney give a desposition because he feels Spears’ mother defamed him and wants The Femme Fatale to tell what was really going on.
There’s just one little problem, even though she has a hit record and is performing again, her mental competence is still an issue. If she’s not mentally competent, then she can’t give a deposition or testify in court. Britney is still under the conservatorship of her father, James Parnell Spears, and family attorney, Andrew Wallet, who would like to keep it that way.
What’s the controversy? Lynne Spears, Britney’s mom, said in her book, “Through the Storm” that Sam Lufti was a master manipulator who fed Britney drugs and cut her off from her family. Lynne Spears also says Lufti’s reputation was so bad after what he did to her daughter that his reputation couldn’t fall any lower.
Lufti says it isn’t true and that Spears was already a mess before he became her manager. Britney had already racked up two failed marriages, lost custody of her child, shaved her head, was arrested for reckless driving, and went to drug rehab before they ever met. His lawyers say even someone with a bad reputation can get a worse reputation from false accusations.
Lufti and his attorneys think Britney’s just fine as evidenced by the recent and long interviews she did with MTV and with Ryan Seacrest which show her using “coherent and logical thinking” according to UCLA Assistant Professor of Psychiatry Joshua Pretsky. They want Britney to submit to a psychiatric evaluation.
It’s quite possible they might get what they ask for and everyone will find out the difference between truth and lies. It's also true that one doesn't have to be mentally competent to be a star. All one need do is hire the right people to manage every aspect of one's career. However, even the mentally competent have been taken advantage of by unscrupulous managers and even family members.
In case anyone is wondering, all of this information becomes public knowledge through court documents once a lawsuit is filed.
