Britney Spears gets back in the zone with healthy new fitness habits

A fit and fresh faced Britney Spears glows on the cover of this month's Glamour magazine. The headline, "Healthier at Last" describes Britney's new outlook which she projects throughout inteview inside. Brit describes her comeback year, plans for New Year's resolutions and daily fitness and nutrition routines.

Interviewer James Patrick Herman questioned Britney about her fitness habits. The singer, who recently released Circus on her 27th birthday, says that since having kids, her commitment to fitness has changed. "I used to be obsessed with working out", she says, "but I can't get motivated right now because I'm so focused on my music." She continues by confessing that she doesn't go to the gym every day. "It isn't fun for me...so to do it every day would be horrible. Three days a week is cool. Even two."

Britney's website, however, reports that her trainer, Seven, meets with her up to five days a week. A sample workout posted on the site shows a typical session for the singer. Side by side with Seven, Britney does bicep curls, tricep kickbacks, and standing shoulder presses with light weights. Youtube videos show Britney running on the treadmill and spinning at Bally's Total Fitness where she is said to be a frequent guest.

Britney's healthy new outlook is admirable in light of the tumultuous year she has lived in the public eye. But here is what I think is particularly amazing about her new fitness habit: nothing. She has no special equipment, no high tech personal training sessions, no team of motivational gurus to keep her moving. She enjoys no celebrity get-out-of-jail-free card. She does what we all have to do; endure uncomfortable challenges, struggle with priorities, and fight the same demons to stay on track. For that reason, it is refreshing to see the coverage of her comeback. It is a welcome reminder that there is no quick fix or easy path to having a fit and healthy body.
