Britney Spears blazes fitness comeback, flaunts slammin' body at charity event

Britney Spears, who has battled weight and substance-abuse issues for years, is blazing a comeback trail, as evidenced by her ripped physique at a charity event in Beverly Hills, Calif., on May 11, 2011.

Spears, 29, showed off her toned arms and legs in a body-hugging lime-green sleeveless bandage dress.

Britney hosted the charity event, called the St. Bernard Project, to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina survivors.

'I Work Out a Lot'

Spears was accompanied by boyfriend Jason Trawick, 39, to the festivities, where she reportedly served peach and lemon tea and Louisiana home cooking, courtesy of her dad Jamie.

Britney, a workout fanatic who once did 1,000 crunches a day, now focuses on cardio exercise and running.

"I have a trainer," says the mom of two. "I'm on the treadmill for 30 minutes, and we do a lot of cardio and running.

"He kicks my butt. You pay to hate your trainer. It's so odd."

Was On Suicide Watch Less Than 2 Years Ago

Amazingly, it was less than two years ago that Spears was put on a suicide watch and forcibly hospitalized following a nervous breakdown.

Between 2006 and 2008, the pop princess had several highly publicized nervous breakdowns that required hospitalization for what appeared to be drug abuse, stress, depression, bipolar disorder and other issues.

A former party animal, Britney is calmer and happier these days.

When asked to describe her ideal Sunday, partying and drinking are far from her mind.

"Playing with my boys, getting some frozen yogurt, working out, and taking a nap," she says.

Spears kicks off her Femme Fatale North American tour (featuring Nicki Minaj) June 16, 2011 in Sacramento, Calif.
